Morning & After School Care Club

The Mylnhurst Children’s Club (MCC) provides to a morning and afternoon club to enable parents to drop off their children early and collect them later outside the normal school day.

In the morning club children have the opportunity to enjoy a healthy breakfast choosing from a multitude of cereals, toast with low fat butter, jam or lemon curd and for drinks milk, water or cordial flavoured drinks.

Children use the time to relax and play and when necessary they can sit down and complete their homework before the start of school.

All the children are supervised and handed over to their classroom teachers by a member of staff.

At the afternoon club children are escorted by a member of staff to the MCC premises where upon arrival they hang all their jackets, coats and belongings on a peg with a named label and are signed into the club. They automatically queue up to receive their fruit, a selection of apples, oranges, bananas and pears. From Monday to Thursday we alternate the menu which comprises of day 1 pitta bread, bread sticks, houmous, cucumber, raisins and cheese and day 2 toast with butter, jam or lemon curd. A selection of drinks comprising of cordial drinks (black current or orange) and water. On Fridays we celebrate the weekend with a selection of fruit, drinks and cakes.



Theme Days

After School Club 2The MCC organises theme days throughout the year to help children to further understand different cultures. A recent theme day focussed on Greece where the children experienced Greek food, music and dance. The MCC was decorated in traditional Greek colours.


Homework Club

After School Club 3Immediately after the children have had their snacks and drinks the children from Prep 3 to Prep 6 complete their homework. This is done under supervision in a quiet environment. The pupils are allocated between 30-40 minutes to complete their work with support provided if necessary.


The emphasis of the club is to enable all children of all ages the opportunity to enjoy play. The children are encouraged to engage with others, communicate and extend their capabilities. The staff are on hand to observe their play but not initiating the play. Where some children need encouragement the staff will help them with any of the activities they wish to participate in . A varied amount of indoor and outdoor activities are provided. All activities are planned a week in advance and are age appropriate.

The outdoor play area gives the children the space to play and move around in the fresh air.

Arts & Crafts

We offer a wide range of arts and crafts for the children to enjoy with their friends. There is always the opportunity to draw, paint and do more general activities within their capabilities.


After School Club 4IT equipment is made available to support the children with their homework. They are also used by the children to enjoy traditional children’s games. The laptops and ipads are networked allowing children to access their school work and numeracy and literacy programmes safely and securely.

Electronic Games

We provide the children to play on the WII Sports game and also on a PS2 with FIFA and Sking games suitable for children.

DVD Films

In the late Autumn and Winter months we provide DVD films on a large TV screen and the films are U classification. Where a film is a PG all parents are required to provide approval for their children to watch the film.


The Club has a Coordinator and Assistant Coordinator who both have qualifications in Children Play working NVQ level 3, Food Hygiene, First Aid and Paediatric First Aid, Safeguarding Children in Education and Health & Safety.

All Play workers receive a full disqualification and barring check (DBS),  Induction Course, Safeguarding in Education Training and general principle of play working with children.
