The Early Years Centre

Mylnhurst Early Years

We offer many exciting and stimulating opportunities in our beautiful purpose-built Early Years Centre.

On a stroll down a leafy road in Ecclesall it would be easy to walk past our entrance on Woodholm Road without knowing what amazing facilities we have on offer and what a beautiful setting lies behind the gate. Peppered with ancient trees, adorned with beautifully tendered flower beds and ‘cleverly’ lit pathways, our purpose built Nursery lays nestled within view of the stunning main building of Mylnhurst School. Our outdoor area is raised on a gentle incline within our wooded area giving a wonderful and exciting tree house feel. Our children have access from our playground into the outdoor classroom via a slide to partake in our forest school activities.  A bespoke climbing allows an easy ascent back into the Early Years building.

All our visitors remark on how inviting our Nursery is and are amazed by the calm, relaxed atmosphere. Enabling children to independently choose their own activities ensures that they are engaged and interested which builds focus and encourages communication. Phonics lessons, mini maths meetings and numeracy are intertwined with carefully planned activities to cover all areas of the EYFS framework and in addition we offer French, Spanish, baking and Forest School. Language lessons are delivered twice weekly by Mylnhurst’s very own Monsieur/Senoir Newton and Mrs Nyarko visits us from main school for music lessons.

Lunchtimes

Lunchtimes are a wonderfully sociable event each day and our children are given time to chat and enjoy either a packed lunch from home or a carefully prepared school lunch. Our very own Chef Gareth prepares all the meals on site using fresh, local produce and our menus are regularly checked by a qualified nutritionist. Dietary requirements are catered for and Chef Gareth is always happy to discuss your child’s specific needs.

Online Learning Journal Portal

As a direct link to home, we use an online learning journal portal. Here you are able to see photographs, videos and observations of your child. We hold one to one parent meetings each term (however, these may need to take place over the phone due to current Covid restrictions) and regular newsletters are sent home.

Nursery Life

Dough Disco, Squiggle While You Wiggle and Write Dance sessions are always met with a giggle from our children and it’s lovely to see them enjoy improving gross and fine motor skills in such a fun, energetic and engaging way.

During the summer term, as well as having fun, the focus for our older children is to consolidate their knowledge and build on their embedded learning and confidence to support their transition to primary school.

Mental Health

We’re sure mental health and well-being is at the forefront of parents minds at the moment and our Nursery day is interjected with moments of meditation, tia chi or yoga. We share positive thoughts, promote kindness, caring and sharing and demonstrate how helping others makes us feel good.

Wraparound Care

Our wrap around child care offers a cosy and welcoming environment from (7.30am – 8.30am and 3.30pm – 6pm) where your child will feel safe and secure. The Mylnhurst  Children’s Club (MCC) is located next door to nursery therefore the children will be used to the environment as lots of activities take place here during the day. Breakfast is available in the morning and a light snack is provided in the afternoon along with games, books and rest areas. We do understand that these can be long days for our younger children and therefore the emphasis is on calm, quiet and relaxation.

Our Staff

Finally, one of our greatest assets is our staff, all are experienced and qualified to level 3 or above. Their enthusiasm, knowledge and dedication shines through and enables the children in our care to receive the very best on their Early Years Journey. The staffs’ nurturing, encouraging and caring approach in the setting, enables the children to build on independence, confidence and growth. Our staff form valuable partnerships with parents/carers through encouraging good communication, being attentive, being responsive to feed back and sharing information. We would relish the opportunity to show you around our Nursery, so that you can see for yourselves what an exceptional setting we are!

Fee Structure

As part of our fee structure, the Government’s FEL funding is available, which means our hourly fees range between £6.00 and £10.50 dependent on the sessions your child attends.
