Our School

Age Quod Agis
Whatever you do –
do it well

We understand that children achieve when they feel happy, secure and confident. Situated within a private and secluded campus in the leafy suburb of Ecclesall, our pupils benefit from feeling that their school is a home-from-home. With a swimming pool, forest school, sports centre, games field, library and dance studio all on site, our children have the freedom to explore our campus as they grow, becoming self-assured young people in the process. Unlike in many all-through schools, where the Junior School often fits around their senior counterparts for use of resources and specialist teachers’ time, at Mylnhurst, the facilities and staff cater to the needs of our children alone, allowing them to make the most of every moment of these precious formative years.

We understand that every child is unique and Mylnhurst is a school that values the individualism of your child, leaving no stone unturned in finding a pathway to success and happiness. With a teacher and a teaching assistant in every class, we can ensure that learning is completely tailored to their interests and needs. Our team of specialist teachers, introduced to our students from their very first days in Nursery, ignite our pupils’ passions for their respective subjects; from science to swimming, languages to computing, our boys and girls enjoy learning from teachers who are experts in their fields.

At Mylnhurst, we combine a forward-thinking and outward looking approach to education with traditional values. Our whole curriculum is designed with happiness in mind; our open spaces, focus on sports and the arts, broad enrichment programme, outdoor classroom and nutritious and balanced food cooked on-site, enable us to ensure the foundations are laid so that learning can take place. We instil in children a sense of right and wrong, respect and tolerance for others and self-discipline so that they can make positive contributions to the world around them.

about-us

As a one-form entry school, with classes limited to 24 pupils, our families enjoy strong relationships with all members of our community. These relationships allow us to understand how best to meet your child’s needs. Our wonderful chef, Gareth, serves delicious and nutritionally balanced meals in our Dining Hall, which is within our Grade II listed stables. He caters for all dietary requirements and preferences and his team take enormous pleasure in taking part in our special curriculum days, whether it be a Hungry Caterpillar themed banquet for World Book Day or delicious Irish stew and soda bread for St Patrick’s! We look forward to occasions where we can all get together, from camping nights to the Christmas Fayre, Mylnhurst’s Got Talent to the Summer Ball; when your child joins our school, the whole family becomes part of our community.

Anyone who has spent time at Mylnhurst will understand that it has a magical quality that stays with you for life. Many of our members of staff have connections to the school from childhood, contributing to the strong sense of family and homeliness that is so palpable as you walk through our gates.
