Our lucky Prep 5 and Prep 6 classes were treated to a very special hands-on history workshop with Maya archaeologist Dr Diane Davies – the only British archaeologist specialising in the Maya people.
Dr Diane, a former UCL historian, travelled all the way from Snowdonia to join us in the Mylnhurst school chapel for a presentation about the incredible civilization the Maya created in the rainforests of Central America up to 4,000 years ago.
Dr Diane brought with her an array of precious artefacts – authentic replicas crafted in Guatemala – to give the children a ‘look and DO touch’ lesson in the Maya’s genius for art, maths, literacy, astronomy… and even hot chocolate making!
