Celebrating Pentecost with Eucharist Mass

Celebrating Pentecost with Eucharist Mass

We were honoured to welcome back into school our parish priest, Fr John Cooke, to lead us in our termly Eucharist Mass in the Chapel.

Fr John, from St William of York Church on Ecclesall Road, dressed in his red vestments which, he explained to the children, are special robes to mark Pentecost – 50 days since Easter, and the coming of the Holy Spirit.

The word Pentecost is derived via the Greek word for ‘five’ and five of our Prep 6 girls – Rhea, Thea, Eleanor, Paige and Rose – delivered Bible readings and prayers beautifully.

Fr John spoke warmly to the children about the importance of kindness, forgiveness, and love in our hearts, even when that feels difficult, and when the news is so full of nations making enemies of one another.

It was a quietly contemplative morning, and all the children behaved impeccably throughout the service.
