“If you have a worry, it’s better out than in.”
Wise words from our Head Boy Harry as he and Head Girl Safi proudly launched our school’s new worry monsters.
The idea came directly out of a pupil voice initiative from our Prep 6 student leadership group, and the cuddly toys have been deployed around the school from today. Children can write down their fears or worries, place the note in a cuddly Worry Yummy’s mouth, zip it shut and – nom, nom! – the worry is eaten.
Teachers and other trusted grown-ups around the school can help with the children’s worries and friends can lighten the load.
Seven of the monsters will be given homes in each of the Reception to Prep 6 classrooms, and the others – Hank, Marvin, Munch, Zipper and Luna – will be located centrally around our school.
“I do think a lot of people do have worries and they don’t want to share it with anyone because they don’t want people to know,” said Harry.
“Especially boys, because they think they’re all strong and they need to not tell anyone. But if you have a worry, it’s better out than in.”
