Small changes for the big move up to secondary

Small changes for the big move up to secondary

A big part of Prep 6’s focus in PSHE this year is equipping our pupils with the skills they will need as they progress to secondary school – partly through work covered in class, and partly from experiences offered.

This week the class visited the Lifewise Centre in Rotherham to take part in Crucial Crew, a purpose-built experience that immerses every Y6 child in South Yorkshire in a range of scenarios such as how to catch a bus, how to safely cross a road, how to be alert to fire risks and an introduction to the rudimentaries of the police and court system!

And to get home again, they all caught the bus!

As our pupils continue to near the end of their Mylnhurst journeys, we will slowly introduce several new changes to help get them ready for secondary school: three pieces of homework a week plus an extended project towards the end of the year, a responsibility for their own school uniform, and a timetable with rooms and times.

The children will be responsible for knowing which room they are expected to be in for which lesson at which time!
